Harris Ranch, CA
Captive audience
So far I haven't seen a crowd here, but I usually travel on weekdays. If you stop here I hope you like Harris Ranch, because it's pretty much the only option for food or even getting out of the heat.
If you bring your own food there's no good place to enjoy it, especially in hot weather. A few shade trees and picnic benches would make a big difference.
Buttonwillow Supercharger
Solid option on I-5
This supercharger seems to be less crowded than Tejon Ranch, maybe because the location isn't quite as nice. On paper there are some decent food options nearby, but walking to them isn't pleasant. Even crossing Tracy Ave feels like an adventure. The best option might be to get takeout nearby, then park for the charge.
Burbank
Busy busy busy
I came in on a weekday afternoon and all stalls were full. Space is tight here and there's no obvious waiting area. I asked someone in the service center: he recommended lining up in the shade of the building, parallel to San Fernando Blvd. He also mentioned that it's really bad on Friday nights and weekends. About half of the cars had drivers waiting inside, and a few others came back with shopping from the nearby grocery store.
I didn't have to wait long, maybe ten minutes. Once I had plugged in I picked up a refreshing ice cream cone at the Baskin-Robbins next door, and went back to my car. A prospective buyer walked over and asked me a few questions.
Dublin-Amador Plaza
Often crowded, meagre food options
If you're coming into the SF bay area this looks like a good place to make up range lost to headwinds and hills. But it's often crowded, so you may have to wait for a stall. Once you're plugged in, there isn't much to do nearby — especially when the service center is closed.
Manteca, CA
Keep an eye on your vehicle
I've charged here twice without any problems. But recently there have been reports of smash-and-grab robberies: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/posts/1646155/
The food options nearby are nothing special. Pete's has some decent beer, albeit at eye-watering prices.
Fresno Supercharger
Charged here on the way to Kings Canyon and Sequoia
We found plenty of open stalls on a Monday afternoon, so we took our time and charged to 100% for a week of camping off-grid. Nearby food options were mediocre. We picked up some last minute camping toys at Target.
